The Room Where It Happens
In 1832, Eliza Jumel married Aaron Burr in this room.They divorced four months later.
General George Washington used the Morris Jumel Mansion as his headquarters from September 15, 1776 to October 21, 1776. This room, with its many windows, provided a strategic vantage point. While headquartered here, Washington won the Battle of Harlem Heights, which was a turning point in the war.
